Introduction
In this series of videos, a kindergarten teacher using SRA Imagine It! provides her students with explicit comprehension instruction as she reads a selection in the By the Sea unit. The teacher begins by asking the students what they already know about whales and by helping the students add information to the Concept/Question Board. Next, the class previews the selection and learns key selection vocabulary words as they prepare to read the selection. During the first read of the selection, the teacher models the use of the comprehension strategies Asking Questions and Predicting. During the second read of the selection, the teacher provides instruction on the comprehension skill Sequence and the class uses sequence words to retell the story.
